Spaghetti Al Dente
About the Al Dente Series
It is no understatement to say I’ve wanted to do this series for quite some time… Its’ lived in my repository of ‘Art ideas I’ll get to eventually’ and finally the iron was hot. Well, I guess the pot of spaghetti was hot. That is, after all, how the painting was made. Add some paint to a helping of spaghetti, aim at the canvas, and throw.
Often times, art is just the result of unabashed curiosity, and this series wears that on it’s shoulders proudly. Beautifully clean, yet remarkably elegant, the Al Dente series is yet another attempt to remove the ego from my art and let physics create the wonder. Each strand of pasta leaves its immediate, dark mark on the canvas, yet the resulting silhouette is what speaks most to me. It’s with the added stroke that a temporal element is added to the painting. One can start to notice where the pasta begins to bounce and what wild orientation the noodles can take between their first and second contact of the canvas plane. The painting itself dances with the moves of each pasta stroke. No matter the character, there seems to be a story. And with each turn of the canvas, new viewpoints reveal new secrets.
As with most of my works, I truly love it. It speaks to me deeply, and I hope the same for you.
